Split a PDF into separate files
Cut one long PDF into smaller ones: by page range, every few pages, under a file size, or one file per chapter. The splitting happens in your browser on your own device, so you can split a PDF without uploading it anywhere. Your original stays as it is.
How to do it
- Drop your PDF on the page, or press «Choose file».
- Under «How to split», choose «Pick pages», «Cut points», «Every few pages», «By file size» or «By bookmarks».
- Check the list of files to be made, then press «Split PDF».
- Press «Save», or «Save all» when there are several files.
Good to know
- To split a PDF every 2 pages (or 3, or 10), choose «Every few pages» and type the number. If the page count does not divide evenly, the last file is simply shorter.
- The number printed on a page is often different from its position in the PDF: a book's page 1 may be the 9th page of the file. Tap the page pictures instead of trusting the printed numbers.
- Need the parts to fit an upload limit for email or an AI assistant? «By file size» keeps every file under the size you type and never cuts a page in half.
Questions
How do I split a PDF into two files?
Choose «Cut points» and tap the page where the second file should start. Or choose «Pick pages» and type one range per line, such as 1-40 and 41-80. Each line becomes its own PDF.
Can I split a PDF without uploading it?
Yes. The tool runs inside your browser, on your device. The file is never sent to a server, which matters for contracts, medical records or anything else you would rather keep private.
How do I split a PDF by chapters?
If the PDF has bookmarks (a clickable contents list), choose «By bookmarks» and you get one file per chapter, named after the chapter if you like. If it has none, use «Cut points» and tap the first page of each chapter.
